How to break procrastination and keep writing?
To break the barrier, sometimes you need to force yourself to do the task. It’s been months since I am not interested in writing or reading – the 2 things in my life that used to keep me sane. Does that mean I am done with both of them? Nooooo. I still can’t imagine a life without reading and writing. I am constantly writing for professional purposes but what’s happening to my love – my blog?
Some 10 years back, an astrologer told me my writing career would shine for 7 years uninterruptedly. I asked him what would happen after that. He was quiet and then said I would still be writing. I wonder what’s stopping me?
No, it’s not procrastination either as I don’t believe it exists. If it does then I want to break procrastination; the myth that it hovers over a writer occasionally.

If I am not writing then what’s keeping me busy?
Scrolling through social media is not consuming me much as it doesn’t interest me anymore. YouTube interests me because I love watching Pakistani dramas. If you browse well, you find good content from a writer’s perspective. Their storyline is calm and deeply inclined towards life and God. The 2 things I strongly believe in. I also like their romantic stories that are calm to watch and give a chance to peep into fictional characters’ lives. But they don’t refrain me from writing. This is my after-dinner activity when I unwind to sleep.
Another activity that keeps me busy is gossiping with my mom and my friend Uma. But then isn’t laughing away your blues make you light?
One thing I am enjoying is cooking delicious recipes at home. My daughter loves Korean dramas and from their her interest for Sticky Rice has come to our kitchen. I guess, I remember her asking about Sticky Rice when she used to watch Doremon.
At last, I made it at home with Schezwan curry in homemade Schezwan Sauce (all thanks to YouTube recipes). I felt good to try things at home and make it for my family who loves to eat. But again, coming back to the main purpose of this post, cooking is not taking my time to write.
Things I have tried to keep writing and reading
I went with the flow and let things sort out themselves. I realized it was not happening and I had to intervene. I have to take control of the situation. I bought new books, kept them on my side table and started reading a paragraph a day.
For my blog too, I opened my blog and started the post I left in between. You know that’s when I started realising that it’s this particular post that’s stopping me to write! I am not yet ready to talk about it transparently and it is what is preventing me to move forward. I deleted, re-wrote it and deleted it again.
I thought to write my thoughts out on my blog and discuss the dilemmas I am going through and see, I got the solution. I broke the barrier! As I started writing my feelings out, I found the problem and the solution too. Writing has always helped me and it stays true to date.
Procrastination doesn’t exist
I believe and tell my readers and writer friends to break procrastination if they feel it exists for them. Whatever is stopping you from something to happen just start doing it. It may be a forceful action, in the beginning, but as you progress, you see your thoughts decluttering and coming clean on screen/paper.
Just now, I have conquered it and I am sure you will also do it once you start.
Break the barrier. Break procrastination
Summarising all the steps I followed to remind myself how much do I love my blog. More than me, my blog responds to my love.
- I read my old posts and they are soooo good. Yes, they are. Read your old posts, you will agree with me.
- I corrected the SEO of my old posts and believe me it creates magic. You realise people love you and find you through their keywords.
- The Drift chat box on my homepage shows how much people want me to write and connect with them. The queries make me emotional when they say they were searching for something and found my post on Google Search results.
- I am observant and note down topics I want to write about in future.
