How does interdependence within your own tribe yield positive results?
Using your mind intelligently is an art. Often people know of this quality later in life. Like when I was growing little did I know about my good qualities. It is usually through others that I realized what I am good at. Once my friend ordered Chinese for me and that’s how I remembered that yes, this is one dish I enjoy eating and often order. The same holds true for other personality traits as well. More than education, it’s the upbringing and your lifestyle that shapes you in a particular manner. That’s when interdependence within your own tribe helps you transform into a multi-talented human being.

Interdependence is beneficial in many ways
I remember my grandmother learning the mother tongues of her neighbours because she had the urge to know more. She got married early in life so did not get the chance to study more but her learning never stopped. While socialising with others, she learnt different ways of carrying herself and much more which later got added to our personalities too.
Like children follow the habits of their parents, grandparents and every member of the family, tribes also affect your personality. There’s always something in others that you want to adopt.

Rang De magnifying the interdependence
My grandmother was very good at maintaining finances. She taught me Maths while calculating the salaries of the staff. One of her strongest personality traits was the belief in the financial freedom of ladies. Though she could not earn herself due to old customs and family expectations, she always insisted my mom keep working after marriage.

I found the same set of strong feelings in the women of The Sittilingi Valley when I came across a blog post by Rang De. It’s a village situated in the womb of the Kalvayaran hill range, Tamil Nadu. Here, the ladies have formed closed groups within the tribal communities to help each other financially. They maintain proper financial records and meet once a month to update the ledger.
However, Rang De sensed the need for digitalisation to keep the data safe. RangDe.in is India’s first social peer-to-peer lending platform that enables you to invest in entrepreneurs from low-income communities and accelerate financial inclusion in India.
Benefits
There are many benefits of depending on people of your own tribe like
- You can trust them
- There are very less chances of getting exploited
- Women become more confident in managing their finances
- You are able to know the exact reason for lending money
I was happy to know how Rang De is involved with many remote areas and helps them to connect with the rest of India. If you have been linked with any such tribe and you have a story to share then do check Impact stories too.
Talking about stories, I remember bedtime stories my grandmother narrated to me and their impact on me even today. Do you have any habits of your grandparents in you?
