7 Questions that will make you a successful podcaster
The podcast is the new trend that’s keeping everyone busy this year. What’s new added in the playlist is the talk of the town. If you have also started a podcast recently then you should definitely ask these questions that will help you make a successful podcaster. A clarified mind helps you plan your podcast journey effectively.
Are you a listener before a podcaster
Like a writer should be a good reader first to keep polishing his writing skills, a successful podcaster is also a good listener first. Listen to others and observe how they convince you to come again and listen to them. This helps you determine shortfalls for a podcaster and what skills you need to learn to identify your audience.
Why do you listen to a podcast
The most important question to yourself is why do you listen to a podcast? What attracts you towards it? I listen to my playlist when I walk in the morning because I need an audio company instead of someone physically walking with me. Here, I can control what my ears are listening which is not possible if someone is talking to me.
Secondly, listening to my favourite playlist helps me finish chores that I hate to do. Like , I make food but hate to make chapatis.
When did you start listening and on what medium
I started listening to the audiobook first in 2015 when my brother in law suggested me to listen to The power of your subconscious mind by Dr Joseph Murphy. Initially, I was sceptical to audiobooks as I thought it will replace my love for reading. But I was wrong. They are complimenting to each other. When I can’t read I listen and this way the knowledge is not compromised because of time. I am learning through different mediums.
A few years later, my blogger friend Amrita introduced Anchor to me and then there was no coming back. I explored the medium and started recording my episodes which were simply seamless.
At what time do you like to listen
This will help you analyse your audience too. Their time of listening helps in modulating your voice. If it’s at night then you can keep your voice calm and if during the day then you can be enthusiastic to excite your listeners.
Where do you search your audio
In the year 2020, Gaana.com has really improved and updated with so many genres of podcasts. The initial months of the pandemic were accompanied by great episodes of horror stories on Gaana.com. I remember listening to them with my daughter and we spent a lot of time together enjoying spooky stories.
(Well, this is my personal opinion and not a sonsored post for Ganna.com)
Why do you like a particular genre?
It is a good question to ask yourself that gives an example of why your audience likes your podcast. Look at your audience as you listen to others. This gives you all the relevant answers helping you in shaping your podcast better.
Incorporating all that you learn
You need to be observant and daring to experiment when you decide to channelise your podcast. That’s where listening more and more helps you gain more knowledge of the platform. Your experience lets you understand your audience better and curate content that’s authentic and useful for them.
A successful podcaster applies what all he learns from his ongoing journey and tests what suits his podcast.
So what are you listening today?

Enjoyed this post Geethica. I developed a crazy love for podcasts just last year and listen to quite a few on Spotify. Audiobooks are not for me, but podcasts not just entertain but help keep me informed and in a constant mode of learning.
That’s true, Ramya. I also connected with podcasts the same way a few years ago.
Amazing points. I have only attempted listening to books so far.
Thanks. We all start like this and may like to start recording later in life.
