Actually…I met them by Gulzar
Some stories remain with you for a longer period of time and you just don’t want to come out of its magic. Such is the warmth of my latest read Actually…I met them by Gulzar. Sometime back, I followed him on Amazon so I got a notification to pre-order his upcoming book. I have a penchant for Gulzar Saab’s writing. So this was the perfect reason to read the blurb and get my copy at the earliest.
The story of meeting Gulzar Saab through his writings
Originally, the thoughts were narrated by Gulzar Saab for a Bangla publication and then beautifully translated into English by Maharghya Chakraborty. The whole narration is in the first person and you feel like Gulzar Saab is sharing his life experiences directly with you.

The book starts as early as a time when he was just 13 years old boy who got attracted to Bengali literature. Being born and brought up in a Punjabi household, it was difficult to describe his inclination for Bengali literature. That’s when we look back and smile at destiny.
Each chapter is named with the person who left an impression on Gulzar Saab’s character and he proudly carries it along until now. His soul is a mix of everything he has learnt and uses even now to enhance his creativity further.
Actually…I met them by Gulzar
It’s interesting to know why am I so impressed with this book and you might be too. Obviously, it’s not the writing because that’s beyond any comparison. In fact, I haven’t read any exclusive book written by Gulzar saab but this one had a reason to be chosen.
It’s because I like to describe memories and go back in time and this book is exactly about remembering the old times. I travelled with Gulzar Saab as the book progressed and witnessed every situation through his flow of words.

Am I born in the wrong era?
I am born in 1984 and I like remembering instances from the flashback. Like my father with broad sidelocks wearing a brown checked suit. My mother maintaining a flix and taking me to the nearby market after returning from work. I hate to hear or say, ‘Yeh sab ab nahi chalta’.
Why does time change? It may bring some good but it washes away infinite good things we already had!
Geethica
Reading along Gulzar Saab, I imagined myself in the 60’s and travelled to the present asking myself did I born in the wrong era?
Who should read this book?
If you are an emotional personal and love reading memoirs then you should definitely get your copy from here.
If you are the one who reads the blurb and checks the book cover then you will be impressed by this book. I liked the simple but beautifully photographed Gulzar Saab on the book cover. As if he’s revisiting his old days and cherishing those lovely moments as he narrates them to us.
If you read this book, let me know your views as well.
