How often do you think to energise and better your craft?
The new year calls for celebrations and new beginnings. However, it is also the time to announce the word of the year. I have been practising following the word of the year for some years now. By the end of that year when I look back, I can see how far I have come. So this year my word of the year is Energise and better your craft. On the basis of my experience in the year 2022, I have thought deeply and decided on this particular word or phrase to follow this time.
No resolutions for me
I am not promising any resolutions but just doing what I have already started. I realise that it’s not enough to learn and add a new craft to your memorandum but to practise it regularly. We remember a particular action only if we practise it regularly and make it a habit.
If you don’t cook daily, you forget the ingredients when making it after years. It is valid for our hobbies too. How may ever we like writing but if we don’t write consistently, favourable words don’t come easy. The same is true for dance also.
Energise and better your craft
This year, I want to focus on all the good things in me and just better them. To do so, the most important thing is to energise. I feel health is the backbone of our dreams. If you are having a headache or fever, do you like to do anything, useful or non-useful?
That’s why energy is the fuel to your good health. Last year while practising for the Bharatanatyam stage performance I realised that I need more energy to keep practising and better my mudras. When I am breathless, I want to stop and then I lose interest. The same happens with writing, cooking or walking too. Whatever may be the craft, it’s essential to energise and better your craft to perform well.

Sources of energy for me
The sources and the importance of energy may be different for different people. For me the daily dose of energy comes from:
- Nature walk early in the morning.
- Having a peaceful breakfast that includes paranthee with chai.
- Getting ready before the world gets up and sit quietly either reading a book, finishing pending shopping through mobile apps or simply closing my eyes and trying to listen to my breathing.
- Talking to my mom and pouring my heart out
- Simply watch out of the window and look as far as I can
- When I see my kids behaving nice to each other
- Gifting my kids and husband what they really wanted
- Sharing my success stories with my husband

Regularity is important
Now I have the energy and the zeal to better my craft. So my next focus is to practice my craft on regular basis. I have realized that continuous practice of a craft only increases your stamina and with the same energy level you are able to perform more and better.
At last, I am excited to start my journey in the year 2023 and let’s see how I shape the months ahead. What are your plans for the year and have you decided on the word of the year?
