If I were growing up during my grandma’s times
It took me a while to get back to writing on my blog. This feels surreal and my fingers are trembling as if I am doing this for the first time. I never knew that coming back to something is more emotional than starting it. Well, whatever the reason but I simply couldn’t miss writing for the prompt ‘If I were growing up during my grandma’s times.
Grandma’s times were blissful
I have grown up with my maternal grandma all my life until she was alive. I have very fond memories with her and often I would live her times through her stories. She would tell me how were her times and what all has changed for bad in today’s world. She would always say that independence has arrived in today’s youth but the extended boundaries have brought in more terror than peace.
There are many things I would have loved living through if I had grown up during my grandma’s times.
Crazy for cotton sarees
- I would have loved wearing cotton sarees daily. I remember her wearing a yellow checked saree that was typical of a south Indian print and another grey one. My mom has worn many of her collections and even I am fortunate enough to wear a few of her collections. I and my mom exchange click when we wear her collection.
- This I have listened to even from my mom. That walking to the nearby theatre in the middle of the night with friends and family was so much possible without any fear. And quietly giggling all through the way.
- Living a simple life with no purpose to achieve. Life before was without any race to be ahead or equal sharing of responsibilities as my grandma would say.
Though there may have been bad things also as evident in every era I chose to remember the good ones. She would say that life is not easy for a woman in any era and I feel nothing is served on a platter. You have to carve your own path irrespective of the times you are living in.
