Why do we celebrate birthdays every year?
Birthdays are the times when we specifically plan to spend time with our favourite people. No matter what the year is and what age are we crossing, this day is just for enjoying good food, music, creating memorable moments and of course, buying gifts to pamper oneself. In so many years, I have experienced that you should never expect others to make your day special. In fact, start early and celebrate the whole month, why just one day? Buy gifts for yourself and enjoy each day. Today, you have got a reason to celebrate birthdays every year!
Of so many birthdays, let’s talk about my 20th
The calendar reads 21st Sep 2004 today. I am excited to cut the cake with my friends before lunch. I invite my friends from school, college, NIIT all together so that they get mixed up easily. We are going to a Chinese restaurant in the adjacent sector that’s my favourite. The most exciting thing these years is that I am driving to nearby places and that adds attitude to the birthday girl.
Reena and Vidya are already there with a few of my other friends. When boys have to visit your home for the first time, they feel scared asking why are we meeting your parents? As if I am thinking to marry them all!
Well, we are ready to go for lunch and papa has allowed me to take the car. This is it. I am driving with Vidya and Reena whereas boys are wondering why have they got their luxury car to the party when there’s no girl accompanying them?
All three of us are laughing so hard in the car. In a few minutes, we reached the restaurant and ordered all the delicious foods.
A day well spent while teasing the boys
Just like that another year another birthday was spent well with friends and family. At night, my family would look forward to going for dinner. By that time, I used to be so exhausted that the excitement level would dip but obviously, I would smile and accompany them.
There was something more that would keep me awake and that was opening all the lovely gifts after dinner. By God, that was the ultimate. I would not be able to sit down but I would open all of them with half-open eyes. After all, birthdays are to be spent till the last hour of the day.
How do you spend your birthdays?
I am taking my blog to the next level with Blogchatter’s My Friend Alexa.
Birthdays are always special. Remember old times when we used to celebrate with our friends and family. Precious memories.
Such nostalgia looking at old pics especially those taken on birthdays!
Yes, so true. Thank you, Kiranmayi.
I’m always told off for being excited about my birthdays (and also of everyone I care about) but I’m like, of course it’s an occasion to celebrate!
Oh, why so? Well, some habits we make ourselves like I celebrated small joys this whole month and celebrated every day. Thanks.
That old pic of yours and the memory was so nice. I never use to work/ go office/hosp on my birthdays. No labour work on my birthdays. hehehhe..
Wow, that’s cool. Thanks, Jenie.
For me it is just one day a year I get to order people around and get pampered. As grown women, we rarely get that while providing that to everyone else around us for the remaining 364 days.
Birthdays are just an extra special day to celebrate and pamper us. For me personally I ensure that the day is well planned and I meet all my near and dear ones
That’s cool. Thanks, Pooja.
Planning birthdays in 20’s was super fun and excitement filled, loved your experience of birthdays. And you rightly said why one day we can celebrate the whole month.
Thanks, Meenal Sonal.
My most memorable birthday was when my husband surprised me with a gift that I had never expected. I still cherish it.
Wow. Thanks, Debidutta.
I love birthdays. Getting old? Doesn’t matter. Birthday is to celebrate. Period.
I totally agree with you. Thanks, Sreeparna.
i used to be so excited about my b’day too, gettogether with friends and family.
Seriousely. Birthdays are fun at any age. Thanks, Richa.
Birthdays are special. Nice to know about yours. Mine is all about what kids want but I never forget to gift myself something special.
Wow, that’s nice. Thanks, Neha.
Birthdays are always special, while growing up my birthdays were always low-key, but I realized as I grew older I have become a birthday diva:)
and yes, why celebrate one day and wait for others to celebrate our day..we should make our own happiness
This is exactly what I realized this time and actually enjoyed the whole month. Thanks, Harshita.
Birthdays are always special. Even at this age, I enjoy being pampered on my birthday. Earlier we used to go out for a special treat with family but these days we celebrate it at home.
Wow, Madhu Ji, you are actually an inspiration to all of us. Thanks.
Oh man I miss celebrating birthday with my friends and family. They are now all scattered across the globe 🙂
Yes, that’s true. Thanks.
The best birthdays I had were during college. I had a celebration at college, after college, again at home — a long celebration time.
So, you just had a birthday last week. Hope you had a blast this year too. Stay blessed.
Thanks a lot, Kiran.
I have fond memories of my 18th birthday. It was a fun time.
Wow. Thanks, Aesha.
you have preserve all the memories in photography too great. Birthday is always special, it may be of 1 year kid or 100 year old person.
So true, Gurjeet. Thanks
Nice. So I make sure I don’t cook on my birthday, or do any other chore. We go out for dinner (mostly sushi) as I will be looking forward to it.
That’s nice. I don’t even want to take a glass of water from the kitchen on my birthday. As the moment you go inside, you see some work to do. Thanks, Cindy for commenting on all of my Alexa posts.

Hahaha, that happens. Thanks, Sadvika.
