Will you hear my story behind crispy yummy papadums?
Papadums or better known as papads in Indian households are the best crisper companion of any boring menu at the table. While growing up papadums, also known as Applams, were my favourite dish with rasam rice. Even today, when I visit my mom’s place, I expect her to fry some applams with rasam rice. Back at home, there are different stories behind crispy yummy papadums to keep you interested.
Crispy yummy papadums
Papadums in different shapes and colours are my children’s favourite. During any festival, my mom would send a few packets of papadums of cute shapes like rings, nets, badminton racket etc along with other delicacies. These had become a good tiffin for both my children. Otherwise, my daughter is a junk food lover and my son loves to eat paranthees daily. But these colourful papadums brought them together. While drinking milk in the morning, they would eat a few papadums from their lunch boxes and would weave in new stories to laugh away. Colourful rings papadums are my personal favourites as they are in green too.
Alas, nobody knows when would children go to school and we would get our lives back as normal?

Every plate has a personal demand
When we are at the dinner table, we have different favourites. Moong dal kali Mirch papadums are also a yummy companion with any food. In fact, when my father in law would ask for one in between the chapatis, we all would tell him to wait and finish his plate first. And as soon as we would see papadums on his plate, we would also ask for one!
Just like that papadums have become an important dish on our table. Now I make sure that they are always in stock at home. Shopping for papadums have shown me many variants available in the market. I got to know that papadums also come with onion and garlic because I thought they are made of dals, salt and black pepper only.
My love for crispy yummy papadums
I have got used to eating papadums that now I make a papadum curry too. It is very simple to prepare. Just add heeng, zeera to toamto puree in desi ghee. Add your ususal masalas and a pinch of roasted besan and a tablespoon of curd. Bring the puree to boil until you add roasted pieces of papadums to it. Ahh… it is so yummy and spicy.
Have you tried any recipe with papadums? Do share with me, I will definitely try it.
