Did you know that there’s no difference between black and green Olives?
I like black Olives. I don’t like the green ones much because they taste like Indian pickle to me. Well, Olives are one thing that my mom didn’t introduce to me. When we started ordering from Pizza Hut, we found so many add-ons and that’s where I tasted black and green olives one by one. Then eventually, we got a bottle of black olives at home and added it to homemade pizzas and bread pizzas. Researching for this post, I learnt that there’s no difference between black and green olives.
Black and green olives are the same
They say that there’s not much difference in taste except that the green ones are bitter than the black ones. Their taste majorly depends on their curing process. Green olives are picked before ripening, and black olives are picked while ripe which is when the colour turns from green to black. But they both grow on the same tree.
Olives do have nutritional value too
- Olives are loaded with several vitamins mainly Vitamin E and minerals.
- They are low on carbs but high in healthy fats. Though we can’t consume them much in quantity but can always add them to our salads, pizzas and sandwiches.
- Olives are also rich in antioxidants that help in lowering blood pressure and cholesterol levels.
- Olives packed in saltwater may also have high sodium levels.
I think without knowing so many benefits of olives, I have been consuming them pretty well. My favourite style to eat black olive is as a topping in homemade pizzas and pasta. Recently, I have started adding it to grilled sandwich too. Just take 2 slices of bread, put a cheese slice, some black olives, salt and pepper to taste and grill it. Voila!
Have you tried any recipe with olives at home?
