Shadow of the Past by Mayank Manohar
I love reading mystery stories. It is a default choice by birth. As I grew, I tried romantic novels, maybe the age exploits you to try different genres. But I couldn’t stick to it for long and came back to mystery and thrillers. Then life came in and I almost lost touch with reading books. A few months before, it felt like a big task to pick up a book. In fact, I was surprised to doubt myself whether I would have time to finish it? Somewhere inside me, I got a call to pick up. Recently, I have found my new love in reviewing every good book I read and thereafter interviewing the author on my Facebook page Thoughts by Geethica. Shadow of the Past by Mayank Manohar is one such book that tied me back to simple yet intriguing love stories. Watch this interview to know what were the emotions that went behind penning down this book and the real motivation that insisted the author to publish this masterpiece.
The storyline of Shadow of the Past
The story revolves around Lavanya and Rehan who are in love but due to unavoidable circumstances, they had to part ways. Life goes on but they both are stagnant in their that phase of life. Life complexifies when Rehan finds his new love in Arpita and they both want to move on. But will the baggage of Rehan’s past let them move ahead?
The story ends very aptly leaving the readers wanting for more.
My review
I instantly connected with the story. It is a very light story with abundant emotions. The author knew that his story is simple so he created it extraordinary through his fantastic narration skills. As a writer, he is an expert in his field and closely watches the ones he admires for inspiration from the writing field.
The author has very carefully changed the narration from one character to another taking care of not confusing the reader. The best part I liked about the book is that it doesn’t have chapter numbers. Do you realise how much fun it is to keep on reading without the fear of finishing chapters? Chapter numbers are a great hindrance in the flow of reading. I am sure you all will agree.
Every story is inspired by the author’s personal life in some or the other way. When I interviewed the author, I also found that Rehan has slight shades of Mayank in him. Watch the interview again and catch if you can! The author’s real-life motivation is shown in the characters of Arpita and Lavanya’s friend. These two characters push the protagonists to move ahead in life.
Mayank Manohar as an author
Mayank is an Engineer turned journalist and now a published author. This is his debut novel that has hit the bestselling column of every bookstore. His marvellous storytelling skill has left everybody in awe. After dodging life for about 8 years, he is an author today achieving his dreams.
After the success of his first novel, he is already ready to script the next part of this novel. Actually, this is not his first script. In fact, he has talked about his debut script which he submitted to various publications before he came up with the idea of Shadow of the Past. You must have listened to this in his interview above. Not yet? Then watch it again!
Every romantic reader should read this book and even mystery readers like me.
