Confused or sad? Listen to old Hindi songs from the '80s
Some time back, a movie was made on Sanjay Dutt’s life called Sanju. Although, I remember Sanjay’s life story while I was growing but watching an autobiography is any day interesting. In the movie, Sunil Dutt used to say that whenever you are confused or feeling sad, listen to old Hindi songs. They are very powerful with deep encouraging lyrics. He praised the Indian lyricists and their wisdom to weave the correct words for every situation. I also grew up listening to old Hindi songs from the ’80s. I was first attracted to their music and gradually to their wordings and the deep meaning within.
This time around when Alpana and Pragun released a blog contest and gave Old Hindi songs as prompts, I was so touched. I just wanted to do it. I listened to all the given songs one by one and went back in time when I first heard them. Finally, I chose ‘Zindagi ke safar mein guzar jaate hai jo mukam from Aap ki Kasam’. Each word is so true if we listen carefully. I wonder how intelligent were the lyricists at that time. They understood the reality of life so clearly and wanted to help out everyone through their melodious songs.

Nurture your relationships
Today, we are so engrossed in our personal lives that we don’t give time to the loved ones living with us. We take them for granted and enjoy our privacy. Their presence feels like a hindrance in our work and lifestyle. But we often forget that when we are alone we don’t even enjoy our work. It becomes a burden and monotony. Success doesn’t taste sweet when not shared with loved ones. When you are alone, nobody is going to praise you for your hard work. All hard-earned money also loses its charm.
This is exactly what is said in this song too. If later, you want your loved ones to come back then it is impossible. Respect them and shower love when they are present with you. There is no use to repent later when the time has lapsed and everyone has moved on. The lyricist has explained so beautifully that every season goes and comes back but those people never come back with whom you have fought back years ago. It is important to sort every issue in the present time and leave no guilt for the future.
Busy life vs reality
Relationships give the strength to perform well and we often ignore them. When it is time to thank them, we include our peers, friends and team in our thanking speech but seldom remember family.
- Ever thought how blessed we feel when there is somebody waiting at home to listen to our stories.
- In the morning, there’s someone to wish you luck and pack your lunch.
- At the time of depression, there is that one person back home whom you want to tell all.
- There is one buddy who laughs at all silly things you do. For me, my kids accompany me with all the silly things I do being a mother.
Take one task home today and smile at your loved ones for no particular reason. They will smile back and you will feel happy.
