Oxford Bookstore CHA BAR – CP
Bookstores are magical and they take you to another level; away from life and its sins. CHA BAR in Oxford Bookstore CP is the first book cafe I went with him. Until then I used to browse the bookstore and he used to get bored. This is the oldest book cafe and I guess the first one to introduce the concept of a book shop with coffee. We were just some months old as husband and wife when we found this beautiful cafe. Now it has changed its interiors but I loved the red sofas before with the cosy atmosphere between the books. There are a lot of old and sweet memories attached and we often visit this cafe to relive those years.
The story in their own words
Cha Bar was created as an integral part of more than 90 years old iconic Oxford Bookstore in city centre Park Street, Kolkata in the year 2000. The concept was expanded pan India integrated into Oxford Bookstores and customers loved the experience of being able to browse at leisure, leafing through the books of their choice, over a cup of tea from the wide selection available at the Cha Bar or simply unwinding with friends sipping the rejuvenating beverage, iced or piping hot!
Today, Cha Bar offers this experience at Oxford Bookstores across multiple stores in Bhubaneswar, Kolkata, Mumbai and New Delhi.
How to reach there
The food review
I remember ordering assorted pakodas, french fries, lemonade and coffee. The pakodas were really yummy and nicely served. We have tried almost everything there and found it more delicious than before. Maybe the fond memories make us fall in love again and again.
The crowd is mostly of students and young people but we do fit in. They don’t provide WiFi to their customers and that’s strange. Because mobile data doesn’t work much here. Maybe they believe in reading, eating and chatting!
The price you pay
The menu is of your choice and the bill fits your pocket. You pay approximately Rs 800 – Rs 1000 for two persons for the food we ordered. The cafe is beautiful and you will love to visit it again like we do.
Who knows we might bump into each other someday! If you haven’t visited this cool cafe yet, do cover it and review it on my blog. This is my personal review with fondest of memories and not a sponsored post.

A book lover can live on books and coffee and if there is food then BLISS.
I have the fondest memories of this cafe. My grandfather, an avid reader, would often take us here and we could all buy books 🙂
