Amici Cafe-Defence Colony
Hello and welcome to a brand new session of A to Z Challenge 2019. This year I am going to take you on a coffee date to 26 different places. Each located in or around Delhi. Most of them have been personally experienced and the rest are on my wishlist that will be fulfilled soon. Starting from the first letter ‘A’, I invite you to Amici Cafe. I have been to Amici Cafe, Hauz Khaz which is now officially closed. But never mind we will explore another Amici Cafe today at Defence Colony. There are so many new cafes all around the world that you will never come back to the same one again. I have also been to Amici Cafe at Select Citywalk, Saket which has also shifted.
The origin
Fr Gianluigi Colombo, a Salesian Italian priest in charge of overseeing the operations of the Don Bosco Printing Press, was given permission by Don Bosco management to set up a “canteen” to support its employees, thus giving birth to Amici di Don Bosco (Friends of Don Bosco).
Starting with Italian coffee and gelato, the canteen eventually introduced wood-fire oven baked pizzas and homemade pasta. Fr Colombo’s kitchen eventually became a taste of heaven where tired and weary “souls” found comfort. From humble beginnings, Amici di Don Bosco became well known for authentic Italian pizza, pasta, and gelato.
How to reach there
The food Review
Amici Cafe offers you the best nostalgic coffee and tea sipping experience. The accompanying food is selected keeping in mind the local and seasonal flavours, tea served here is also the charm of the place that makes the customers love their every visit to Amici Cafe. If you are planning to enjoy Thin Crust Pizza, Pizza, Wood Fired Pizza, Burger, Pasta, Salad, Blue Mushroom Gourmet Pizza, visit this place.
The food is good. You will love the taste and quality of food is superb. If you are a pizza lover then this one is for you. All Italian food lovers can try this out. The taste of the food and ambience is the same across all the branches – It is awesome!
The price you pay
It is Rs 1200 for two persons. This is a place for family as well. Your kids will also enjoy the food and ambience. One trick to make kids happy is to carry their favourite puzzle along that keeps them busy until the food comes on the table. You can check more reviews and book a table here
What a lovely idea for the A to Z. I am a great fan of coffee shops and love this series of yours. I’ve been to Delhi’s Def Col at least 20 years ago . YOur post makes me want to visit Delhi again
A must go for nostalgic coffee and tea sipping as these beverages are my favorites.
Good one 🙂
Thank you Sanjota.
26 coffee dates around Delhi. Wow, I hope we get our posting to the Capital soon 🙂 Great start to the challenge, Geetica.
Nice post. Someday I shall visit the Amici Cafe. Now that Church has allowed the father to run this cafe, it has blessing of god. But price is a bit steep. All in Gods name.
Ah ha! Finally I get to meet your blog! 😀
Interesting theme, by the way.
Few years ago, I was visiting Delhi & I went to a cafe in Select City Walk, Saket or one of the other malls in that area (I think there are 3, aren’t there?) and had the most yummiest, gigantic honey cookies! I don’t remember exactly what they were and in which cafe. But if you have ever come across those cookies in any of the cafes in one of those malls, please DO let me know, okay!

That’s a good one! I love this! Then next time we go here 🙂
Amici Def Col and Khan Market have both been regular haunts for me. I love their pizzas and coffee. It’ll be fun to discover new places in Delhi through your series 🙂
