As a mom, I watch my kids waste so much of water while washing hands or drinking only some sips of water and wasting the rest. Many times after telling them also, they don’t listen and keep on doing the same. Even while bathing, they tend to leave the tap or shower open till they are applying soap. Do you face the same situation at your home? How do we deal with it? The simple answer is to show them instead of telling them. And this can happen when we start conserving water because kids learn by watching us.
Ways to conserve water
Keep the glass half full – We drink only that much water for which we feel thirsty. So we should fill only that much water that we can finish. Why leave the glass half full that nobody else can drink. Instead fill the glass twice if you feel more thirsty.
Close the tap – Always close the tap while you are washing your hands with soap or applying soap to your body while bathing. Water saved is useful to many people who don’t get the luxury of water at their home. They have to stand in the queue since morning and that too with some time limit.
Reuse water – If you fill a jug during lunch or dinner time and some water is left unused, keep that water aside to use it at dinnertime. Close the jug with a lid to keep it safe.
Carry your own bottle – During Summer we feel thirsty every now and then. Carry your own bottle with you instead of buying Bisleri at every stop you shop. Many times we throw half-filled bottles because we reach home. Bring that bottle home and use it.
Ask the guests – When we have guests at home, we serve them water. Sometimes they drink and the other times they don’t. It is better to ask before serving them. There is nothing embarrassing about asking them. We are only contributing to the society by conserving unused water.
Conserve through water purifier system – RO today have a reserve tank attached to the system that saves up to 9L water. This water is not good for drinking but can be used to water plants, wash utensils and wash hands. They have a tap to open and close this mini tank when not in use. Use this and conserve water.
Check for any leakage – After you finish working with water check if the tap is properly closed. This applies to every tap in the house. Even at public places wherever you see a tap half opened, closed it that very moment.
Every drop of water saved is conserved and made available to another needy person. We should make our family and society understand the importance of water in our life. And this can be learnt by realising that what will happen if we don’t get water when we are extremely thirsty?
