Be Thankful for the food you eat
Food is the fuel for our body. Human body of any age needs food for survival. We can be alive on water also but for how long? When we consume food we feel energetic and strong. Have you ever thought of being thankful for the food you eat?
One lesson life has taught me
During college days, we all like to rush and skip our meals or want to enjoy outside food. One fine day, I was also in a hurry and told mom to avoid lunch. I planned to have it out with my friends. And as I was getting late, I didn’t have a thing in the morning too. My mom was standing at the door carrying a toast in her hand. ” Don’t go empty stomach, at least have a bite”, her words are still so clear in my mind. To which I replied that I will see something outside.
At the college, I had 5 classes back to back. I thought I will eat something when I will wait at the bus stop. At 1 o clock, I didn’t feel much hungry so I thought I will reach home and eat something. Like this, I kept ignoring the food until I was about to faint in the bus when a lady held me and gave a mango juice.
That day I realised the importance of food in my life. And learnt a hard lesson that when you go out on an empty stomach, you come back on an empty stomach only.
Ways to be thankful for food
After that incident, I always took a packet of biscuit or packed a paranthi whenever I have to go out. I try to teach my kids the importance food and ways to respect the food we get.
- Always take small portions of food on your plate. You can always refill it once you finish. It is better to take several times rather than wasting food on your plate.
- Whenever kids make faces at the food served to them, I always tell them to taste at least. They may like it also. This way they will be more flexible regarding the choice of food they are offered. Because nature has so many dishes to offer us.
- Whenever kids leave some milk in their glasses, I remind them of the beggars on the road who crave for food and milk but don’t get as and when they want. We are truly blessed to have food in our life and the capacity to buy food in the quantity we want.
- Always make the quantity your family will consume. don’t throw the food you don’t eat. Instead, give it to somebody outside who is hungry and in need of food.
When someone eats the food you make, you feel great. Same way, God feels great when his given food is eaten by all.
