# My daughter- My mirror reflection

![](https://thoughtsbygeethica.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/mom_daughter_1512060334-1024x685.jpg)

Every writer is a reader first. When we read, we learn to create great stories from it. **And it is equally important to maintain the practice of reading while you are busy writing.** I used to read so much during my school and college years. I used to squeeze out with my book any hour of the day and my mom used to scold me " arre pehle nahana dona to karlo" (at least finish bathing and all first). Ahh....those were the carefree days. **And now I see myself doing the same with my daughter.** Because she is the [mirror reflection](https://thoughtsbygeethica.com/2017/05/my-carbon-copy/) of me. And I am becoming the mirror reflection of my mother.

It is a blessing to raise a child who loves to read; a child with similar habits. When my daughter started loving books, I felt so proud. **I smiled to myself when she said that the fragrance of a fresh book is simply mesmerising**. I could see my younger self in her. It becomes easier to gift such kids, as you know their preferences.

## Tips for raising a child who loves to read

- Initially, buy them books of different genres and let them decide which one they like the most.

- Listen to what they have to say about the book; **they feel connected and encouraged.**

- Read them stories before sleep. They feel good and have a sound sleep.

- **Buy them books when they do something appreciable.**

- Browse different kinds of books that give them knowledge of our culture, too. [Devdutt Patnaik](http://www.devdutt.com) is the best example.

- Always encourage them to read books whenever free or feeling bored.

- Tell them to re-read an old book to create the magic again.

- **Teach them to donate their old novels and other educational books to a library and help others read.**

There are endless ways to enjoy reading a book and cherish those moments. It is just that we have to share it with all to make it grow.
